‘These Are Never Isolated Incidents’ : Why It’s Important To Hold Fraternities Responsible For Racism

Across the country, students of color have increasingly been drawing attention to racist climates on their college campuses through protests, occupations, and other activism. And as the media attention on these issues has ramped up, so has the focus on what exactly fraternities’ roles are in the campus culture.

Martin O’Malley Just Met With Hunger Strikers To Prove A Point About Immigrant Detention

Over the last two months, hundreds of immigrant detainees have gone on hunger strikes across the nation to protest their prolonged detention. Not many people have noticed. And despite the fact that many of the detainees are seeking asylum in the United States because they’re afraid of being persecuted if they’re returned, politicians have yet to make changes to the conditions at detention facilities.

WATCH: Meet The Protesters Who Just Shouted Down Donald Trump In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV — Hotel mogul and GOP frontrunner Donald Trump had just handed the microphone over to a group of parents of people killed by undocumented immigrants when the chants began to ring out in the cavernous hall at the Westgate Casino.

“Dump Trump!” shouted two local activists as they were quickly dragged out of the room by hotel security guards. “Black lives matter. Muslims matter.” When one of them fell on the ground, an angry crowd of Trump supporters encircled him, phones aloft to film. One elderly man in a pinstripe suit repeatedly screamed, “Take them out!” while another yelled, “Light the motherfucker on fire.”

How Protesters And Striking Workers Changed The Entire Debate Over The Minimum Wage

At the most recent Democratic presidential campaign, candidates clashed over the minimum wage. Bernie Sanders made it clear that he supports raising it to $15 an hour, full stop, as does Martin O’Malley. Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, demurred on $15, saying she instead supports raising it to $12 an hour.

One night: Two massive of Black Lives Matter mobilizations

After dash cam footage of Officer Jason Van Dyke shooting Laquan McDonald was released Tuesday night, highly-anticipated protests began in the streets of Chicago. The video, which shows Van Dyke shooting the 17-year-old 16 times in the span of 15 seconds, was sealed from the public for over a year. It also countered the official police narrative of what occurred on October 20, 2014.

Similar protests were staged in Minneapolis and Ferguson, where frustrations about police violence have boiled over.

15 Seconds Of Video, 3 Arrests, And A Night Of Black Lives Matter Protests

Georgetown University will rename two buildings on campus — Mulledy Hall and McSherry Hall — that are currently named after slaveowners, following protests and sit-ins from students demanding increased awareness about the institution’s racial legacy.

Georgetown students argue that the university needs to acknowledge the ways the university was built on slavery and to foster more discussion on the university climate for students of color. A group of 250 students recently gathered in solidarity with students at Yale University and the University of Missouri, who have also been asking their administrators to acknowledge a racist climate on campus.
